Management

Last updated:

Training Management is where trainings are built and kept current. It is the counterpart to the Overview: the Overview tells you where training stands, while Management is where you create trainings, decide which documents they cover, and revise them over time.

The model has three layers. A QMS Training is the master record for a subject (for example, Technical Documentation); beneath it sit one or more Training Versions, the actual versioned content people complete; and each Training Version is linked to the Document Versions it trains people on.

Because one training version can be linked to several document versions, completing it once satisfies the training requirement for every document it covers, rather than the same material being recreated and reassigned document by document.

This is the main change from the earlier model, which tied a training directly to a single document and user.

The screen has three tabs, each with a count: Training Versions, QMS Trainings, and Coverage Gaps. The sections below follow the order you would usually work in: define the master QMS Training, add a Training Version beneath it, then use Coverage Gaps to catch any released document that still has no training.

Assignment to people is not done on this screen. A training reaches its audience through the documents it covers: when a linked document version is released, that version's Target Audience determines who must complete the training (see Training Assignment).

To follow or manage who has been assigned a training and who has completed it, open the training from the Overview, which lists its assigned and missing users and lets you set due dates, assign, and remind (see Status & Tracking).
